Mattress vs Matress Topper
You still sleep on an old mattress, don't you? People always get used to good things. And this also concerns your bed. There are a lot of people who sleep on older mattresses. We sleep on our mattresses 3-5 years past its useful life, that's what studies show. People always have reasons why they don't want to replace their mattress. And people always try hold on to their old bed just as long as it possible when it comes the time to buy a new mattress.
Why do people do this way? The answer is simple: old mattresses are comfortable and familiar to us. It's really a mistery, but we love our mattresses. We get used to our beds and sometimes don't recognize how they're getting worse and worse. And often it goes the way that we come for a new mattress only when we can't sleep at night and feel back ache. We spend about 25-30 years of our lives in bed and our mattresses are very important factors in the quality of sleep. The better we sleep, the better we feel during the day. That's why they're so important to us. But still most of us don't get happy of the idea of buying a new mattress.
So, in this case people usually don't buy a new mattress - they buy a memory foam mattress topper. And it's really not a bad idea if your mattress is a good match.
Mattress toppers can be different material, size, thickness. Toppers usually come in 2", 3" and 4" heights as a standart. The thicker topper you buy, the softer it will make your bed. Choose a 4" topper for a super soft mattress or in case your bed is really very firm. Choose a 2" topper if you need just some extra softness. Usually people buy 3" toppers to get more softness for their old bed.
A foam topper is a good upgrade if your mattress is still firm and even. But we all know that's not always so. Evaluate your mattress. If it's too soft and it sags in the middle than skip the topper, don't spend your money and time on it. It's the very time to go for a whole memory foam mattress.
Memory foam mattresses consist two basic layers - the base foam layer on bottom and the memory foam layer on top. Memory foam layers provide contouring comfort and initial support. You shoulders and hips don't sink too far into the mattress and your spine is kept in alignment thanks to the base layer. It flexes and gives deep support. The right amount and kind of both memory foam and base foam is the key to a good mattress, to the best support and comfort. And in addition a good cover keeps your mattress clean, protects from spills and stains, acts as a fire retardant, and wicks moisture away from you to help keep you cool and dry.
If you appreciate the benefits of such material as memory foam then both memory foam mattresses and toppers will be good for you. If your bed is not so hopeless (it's still firm and flat) and you just want to keep your current mattress, it's a good fit for a topper.
Otherwise better shop for a good memory foam mattress. If you do this way, you will be really glad.
