Instructions for use of Memory Foam Mattress Pads
The main component of memory foam mattress pads is memory foam, gel-like polyurethane material, responsible for holding body impressions on its surface. The first memory mattress pads were used in hospitals in the 1980s, there the material demonstrated its ultimate ability to help decrease pressure sores for patients confined to bed. When in 1990s the memory pad was presented to the public, it was sold at excessive prices. Soon a lot of private companies, which realized the inevitable popularity of the memory foam pad, began manufacturing their own versions.
Nowadays, with the prices falling and adapting to the expanding market, people are able to ensure a good night’s sleep for their whole life.
A memory foam mattress pad, also know as a memory foam mattress topper, a memory foam topper, a memory foam pad, will give you almost the same comfort and support, which you can enjoy with a memory foam mattress, but it will cost less. The pad is placed on top of a bed, preferably with a firm surface.
The memory pad will get more comfortable for use within several days or weeks. If you would like to hasten the process of breaking the pad in, you should sleep on top of the foam without covering it with a sheet.
Many retailers and manufacturers admit the fact, that although the open-celled composition of memory foam is breathable, it can still become very hot, making it uncomfortable for sleeping. They also advise to try using the mattress pad with and without a top covering, which might reveal a great temperature difference. Alternatively, you can try sleeping with a lowered temperature of the room.
At the same time, the room temperature may influence the softness of the memory foam pad, because memory foam is temperature-sensitive. However, if your room temperature is below 65F and the pad is too firm, you can warm it with an electric blanket before you go to sleep.
When buying a mattress pad, you can also obtain a memory foam mattress cover, which will protect it from spills and accidents thanks to the mixture of soft cotton and water resistant polymers it is made of.
